GERMAN DICTION
I am an experienced German diction coach with a background in both voice and language, and I recently coached diction for San Diego Opera’s production of Salome. I offer a nuanced understanding of both sung and spoken German. I hold a Master’s in German with a specialization in musicology from Middlebury College, and a BA in German from Rice University, where I also earned my BM in voice and learned the International Phonetic Alphabet. My time living in Berlin for over two years further deepened my German abilities.
Whether you’re preparing an audition or a role, or just want to refine your German diction, I can help you bring clarity, authenticity, and expression to your performance.

I studied musicology at the Freie Universität Berlin, completing most of the coursework for my master’s degree alongside native German MA students in the musicology and dramaturgy departments; I attended all classes and completed all papers in German. While pursuing my master’s degree I also performed as Polly Peachum in Middlebury’s German-language summer production, Die Dreigroschenoper.
After earning my MA, I stayed in Germany on an artist visa, working as a freelance choral singer. I conducted daily life, rehearsals, and professional engagements entirely in German.
Later, while pursuing my DMA in Los Angeles, my German skills remained valuable for research, performance, coaching German diction at USC, and a concert tour through Germany where I was interviewed in German by a local newspaper.
Following my doctoral studies, I taught music in German in the immersion program at the German International School of Silicon Valley before taking time off to have my first child. Today, I continue to engage with German daily—whether through podcasts, voice lessons, repertoire work with students, or performance and research.
