Katina Mitchell

Everyone can sing! As an artist-teacher, Katina uses her training and 20+ years of performance experience to lead students in a fulfilling exploration of music. In addition to her teaching practice, she has lectured for ensembles, coached choirs, and served as a classroom educator, including lecturing at the university level. She is also an experienced outreach professional, competition adjudicator, and audition panelist. She serves as Member at Large for the Executive Board of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, San Diego chapter.

At her private studio, Katina teaches voice lessons informed by music theory and music history. Her teaching style is influenced by the Alexander Technique, functional voice training, improvisation, medieval modes, and bel canto singing. Her own most influential music teachers have been Kathleen Kaun (voice), Johanna Peine (voice and Alexander Technique), and Cheryl Ann Fulton (historical harps and early music). Katina’s technical approach is rooted in physiological efficiency so that students learn to sing in a healthy way, allowing a versatile approach to all styles of music.

Katina welcomes students of all levels usually 12 years and older (but on a case-by-case basis may accept students as young as 10 years old). Prospective students may schedule a first lesson and interview by completing the form below.
